When prompted by criticism of .Mac at the recent D conference, Jobs confessed “I couldn’t agree more, and we’ll make up for lost time in the near future.” It will be interested to see how this pans out.
When prompted by criticism of .Mac at the recent D conference, Jobs confessed “I couldn’t agree more, and we’ll make up for lost time in the near future.” I’ve never used .Mac before, but I’ve read enough about it to know of its limitations: it’s slow and expensive for what you get. So what could Apple do to make this service better? Well, now that Apple and Google are in bed together, are we going to see come collabortation from them? This could take the form of specially branded versions of some of Google’s apps, although more likely the apps would be written in-house by Apple, and then hosted by Google. With Google’s massive server architecture in place, it might make sense to have them take over the load of the iDisk portion of the .Mac service.
That being said, it’s certainly good to hear that Apple is planning a revamp. Whatever it is that Steve has up his sleeve, I’ll most likely jump on board assuming that make some significant improvements.
